Last year, my brother and I flew to Randall in a rented Piper Arrow along the way to Cherry Ridge for lunch. I told myself that next year I will return, but that time in a glider. Well I did and it was not easy. Finally after doing my 5 hour duration and climb in July, I got the right to attempt my first cross country flight. I took off at Blairstown and released at a thermal at the lower reservoir and climbed up to 5500ft in that vicinity. I proceeded along the ridge NE to find very little workable lift and by the time I got down to 3500ft, I turned around, just to find a 3 knot thermal taking me back up to 5500ft! That thermal was a bit scary since I had to work it if I were to get out of the local area, but it was in the vicinity of the jets flying through the area. I kept a good eye out and once I climbed high enough, I darted out of there as fast as I could. I flew along and made my way over Newton, where I connected with a nice 5 up thermal near the hospital. I continued toward sussex, working three thermals until I was 10.5 miles from 06N. The last thermal got me up to only 4500ft, but I managed to get over 06n at 2000ft. The whole flight lasted 2.7 hours and with a decent crosswind. The clouds lied and the lift was difficult to find. Nonetheless I made it, though that is just when my day started. The retrieve crew left at 6pm and arrived at 8pm. We took apart the glider to find that a bolt for the spar connection to the trailer was missing and therefore, we couldn't bring the glider back! So we had to return early in the morning the next day and only by 12pm were we finished with the assembly at Blairstown. It was a fun and interesting flight and I hope you guys come and get the boomerang back, so I could retrieve it again!
